Personalizing the Impersonal for Capital One
Before the pandemic, trusting your finances to an advisor you couldn’t shake hands with might have seemed silly. When Capital One Investing’s phone-only advisor offering initially failed to meet adoption goals, I set out to drive higher conversion via a scripted video.
I sketched several concepts with my Creative Director and we chose to pitch an approach that highlighted advisors’ backgrounds and personal details to create authenticity. We got a green light.
Next, I drafted interview questions and held conversations with these finance pros. During our calls, I noted compelling anecdotes, studied speech patterns and idiosyncrasies, and got a real sense of their personalities. Then I crafted a script meant to capture slices of each advisor’s life—and showcase their credentials and character.
We then partnered with a videographer and shot scenes in advisors’ actual homes and office spaces, capturing aspects of the moving details they’d shared with me. On set, I worked with each advisor to sync my dialogue with their sensibility, so the footage rang true.
This video is the full-length end result.
This script excerpt reflects how I melded advisors' unique voices with Capital One Investing's aims to help forge positive sentiment within potential clients.
Seeing this photo on one advisor's desk, I added a line to his closing dialogue to give it real emotional punch.
A cut of our video was viewed nearly 3 million times on Facebook and garnered just under 3,000 likes. The project was a success for the program, driving calls to the team and multiple client adoptions.
